A functional 200ml Banko-yaki Houhin (handleless teapot) with Hiraami filter

Banko-yaki (萬古焼) traditionally comes from Yokkaichi in Mie Prefecture, Japan and began in the 18th century with the potter Nunami Rozan, who stamped his pieces, Banko or Banko Fueki, meaning 'eternity'

There is a functional beauty to Banko-yaki ; it is durable yet refined.  Unglazed shidei kyusu are made from iron-rich purple clay [which comes from the mixture of red oxidised iron and blue high temperature-baked iron in the clay] and prized for softening bitterness and drawing the umami out of green tea.

Hiraami (平網) strainer : a flat, mesh metal filter that sits directly over the inside of the Houhin or Kyusu spout
Material : This Houhin (handleless teapot) is made from unglazed, iron-rich purple clay
Decoration : The body is decorated with a leaf motif each side

Please note : When using this style of teapot only fill it to about 2/3.  Recommended for  brewing gyokuro, but can be used for brewing high quality sencha or kabusecha, too.
