HISTORY OF TAKAYAMA
Takayama is famous as the sole production center of Japan for tea whisks, accounting for almost all of the domestic production. The production of tea whisks in this village dates back to the middle of the Muromachi period. It is said to have begun when Munemasa, the second son of the lord of Takayama Castle, was commissioned by his close friend Murata Juko to make them. You can read all about this on the website of Takayama Bamboo Forest Garden which Michelle visited in November 2025
