Tales of the Tea Trade :
Masahiro Kuma & Kazumi Nakatani
Comins have been working with Fukuoka prefecture since 2016 & in 2025 the
Government decided to encourage more tea farmers to farm organically. The
project aims not only to highlight "Yame tea", but also showcase the knowledge
of the people and the environment of Yame region. Fukuoka Pref. Govt. offers
financial & tech support to farmers who join the project with an aim of reducing
environmental impact & pursuing practices that are in harmony with nature.
Award winning Kazumi Nakatani a 4th gen granddaughter of tea farmer works
alongside her cousin head tea master Masahiro Kuma a 3rd-gen tea farmer on
their 4.5 hectares of tea farm in Yame, Fukuoka. They are part of a group of 6
farmers in the project with 0.4 hectares under conversion for green tea & a small
plot which has been natural for 18 years - where this tea is grown. Their aim is to
create delicious tea that genuinely moves the people who drink it. Having seen
demand for teas grown in harmony with the environment increase they are
motivated to move in this direction and your support demonstrates how this
