'Stay Safe’ Panda Tea Companion : Lu Yanjiu Studio Jingdezhen
Following our 2024 trip to Jingdezhen we are delighted to be able to bring you a number of pieces from the studio of Lu Yanjiu ; Jingdezhen
Upstairs from the studio of Lu Dancheng his wife Yanjiu sits quietly creating. In contrast to the subtle natural style of her husband she creates playful characters who adorn her bowls, plates and cups. YanJui also creates these beautiful tea companions. Lu Dancheng Explains how ‘some people purchase these as a gift for friends, while others use them as a tea companion’. - this is different from a tea pet as the tea should not be poured over the companion - they are more a cheerful presence at the tea table.
Some companions carry a message : Lu Dan Cheng explains the message here
‘Stay safe’ In Chinese culture, “peace” represents a traditional and simple value system, often associated with health and family happiness. The term is frequently used during festivals (such as the Spring Festival) to convey blessings. Here are some Common expressions related to “peace and safety”:
· Safe Journey: Wishing for safe travels (commonly found on vehicle decorations).
· Peace is a blessing: Emphasizing that peace itself is a form of blessing.
And what a beautiful studio this is. Situated right by the river in Jingdezhen they work quietly in this serene space
